RE: 2008 Chevy 2500HD(Diesel) mpg....HELP!!!

In my 06 Chevy Duramax I get 14-15 unloaded and 9-11 towing our trailer. I think the only way I would get 25-28mpg would be downhill with a big tailwind. :)

RE: Best route from Sacramento to Denver this time of year?

The way the forecast is looking, snow & ice should not be a problem. Above normal temps just about everywhere from the coast East to Denver.

RE: Wow! New RV's deserting Southern CA

Possibly heading to an RV show? I know the dealers in my area all get together and put their RVs on one big lot to sell at reduced prices, could be something similar.

RE: Mt Shasta to Reno ??

Nothing wrong with that route at all, taken it many times. Weather forecast is fine for the time you plan to travel, should be smooth sailing.

RE: Salinas to Los Angeles

Buy a good GPS and just put in the destination. It will take you the best way depending on what you request.
I really have to disagree with you. I have a top of the line Garmin and have tested it on known good routes, and it had me going well out of my way. The OP asked a legitimate question about a good route and deserves a better answer than yours. Sometimes GPS directions are not always the best.

RE: Winter in Sacramento

I have stored mine in Colusa which is North of Sac off of I-5. It is usually colder there and I have never winterized, just drained all the water out of the tanks and opened the low point drain. This year it is in Lincoln which is closer to Sac and i really don't anticipate any trouble as sustained freezing temps are not anywhere near the norm.

RE: 2008 Chevy 2500HD Duramax

Take it if that is what you are in the market for, that price will be hard to beat on a loaded Duramax PU.

RE: Wells NV gas

The Flying J on the North side of 80 is a little tough to get into right now. Construction has it narrowed down to just a couple of pumps, but the upside is that it looks like the access will be better when they are done. Flying J was on the south side last time through, has it moved?
Believe it or not, they are both Flying Js, thats why I made the distinction between the two.

RE: Neat Quad Transporter

I am fairly certain i saw the same guy in Ely,NV back in Sept. I was impressed with the set-up and he was traveling with a guy that was towing a 5th wheel that had a quad trailer behind it. Oregon plates if I recall correctly.

RE: "Best " route to Mt. Shasta, CA

I would take 199 from Crescent City over to Grants Pass and then South on I-5 to Mt Shasta. Avoiding snow shouldn't be that much of a proble in late October and if it does snow, just wait it out. Too early for any prolonged Winter storms typically, but anything can happen.
You will not avoid any high passes getting to Mt Shasta from 101 in Oregon, just part of the area you are traveling. Siskiyou Pass from Ashland over to Yreka will be the highest, but easily done with your rig, just take it slow.

RE: Ely to Las Vegas

Which route? If you are referring to 93 it is a very good road, you shouldn't have any trouble at all. There is a Shell station in Panaca that can easily handle any RV, that should be the only fuel stop you really need to make on that run. I believe there is a State park near Panaca as well that has dry camping available.
The whole ride is only about 240 miles and a very easy drive.

RE: Another kind of robbery on the rise.

Yet another reason to remove the cat and store it away. Only needed for emissions testing.
That wont work here in CA, rolling portable smog checks. The fine for not having it on your car would exceed the cost of replacement.
When did they start these? Haven't seen any up in this part of the State, hope i don't either.

that 12 ft. door might be a challenge for some.
bumpy
When you scroll down on that link you can see the floorplan. The door you see in the picture is for your car, the RV garage is below the living space in the back.

RE: First time in RV - California Trip Advice

Zephyr Cove in Tahoe has an RV park that is open in the spring. Check out their website: Zephyrcove.com/rv-campground.cfm
I believe Camp Richardson is open year 'round as well. Great area with little kids in addition to the above - bike rentals, bike trails etc.
Camp Richardson does not open the campground, tent or RV, until at least the beginning of May. If it was a big Winter, it will be more towards Memorial Day. Really not a lot going on around that area until Memorial Day anyway as far as Bike Rentals and being able to use the trails.

As an old plumber once told me: It may be poop to you, but its my bread and butter.
That same plumber also told me "don't bite your finger nails", one of the most important rules! :)

RE: Reno parking lot / casino camping.

I really am not trying to get in an argument with either one of you, as in The Texan and topflite51. I think we have differing opinions which is fine, we are all entitled to one. I was not at all trying to be a no it all about the area and in no way was I implying that either one of you were not familiar, I was just pointing out I lived close by as you do.
I read the articles in the Reno Gazette-Journal last week as I subcribe. I went back and looked at the article on Tuesday 9/30 which stated that gambling is done for the past 13 consecutive months and is the largest decline in a decade. There was also an article on Friday 10/3 stating that when the new Fitzgeralds opens in 3 years it will fill an important niche in downtown Reno, which basically is the tourism industry. There is much going on downtown, some good and some that sits bad with oldtime Reno residents. There is a new ballpark being built and many new places to eat and shop filling a need for the many tourists that visit for the many special events Reno has during the year.
There are some very nice RV parks in Reno that i have visited including Gold Ranch that i just took a ride through when i filled up at their gas station on our way back from Reno today. I think saying that most are dirty and unsafe is not a true statement, but I do concede that there are several downtown that i would not even consider.
I still stand by by statement that the people living in parking lots is the reason this law is being enforced, not because they don't care about RVers. Yes they shouldn't be discouraging any visitors, but at what price to the local residents? It is nothing personal against RVers is all i am saying, and the energy being wasted fighting it is needless IMO.

RE: Reno parking lot / casino camping.

I don't think that Reno is going to dry up and blow away because Rvers that want to sleep in parking lots boycott. There are plenty of RV parks to stay in so there are options. Reno is not anti-RV as you say, just trying to get a handle on a problem they had with people actually living in there RVs going from parking lot to parking lot. That to me is a bigger turn-off than enforcing a law they have had on the books for some time now.No, Reno won't dry up and blow away because of this, I don't believe anyone said it would. But with tourism in Reno falling, why would anyone in their right mind do anything to discourage tourists, no matter how many people it involves. The Reno casino's revenues are down, so taxes the city collects are down, and yet, the Mayor and other elected officials can't or don't or won't acknowledge the connection. Go figure! Elected officials acting dumb!
Suggest you visit the plenty of RV parks in Reno, and see if you would want to park yourself in them. The casino parking lots and other major parking lots are for the most part safer and cleaner.
No need to stay in any of the Reno RV parks, I would only be 20 minutes from home. :) Reno tourism is actually up, but the casino revenue is down, not everyone needs to hang out in a casino to enjoy what the Reno area has to offer.
You obviuosly do not know of the RV parks available in Reno because there are some top notch places there, not the unsafe dirty ones you describe. I am in Reno at least 4 times a week, so i think i am fairly knowledgeable about the area.
This law is being enforced to keep people from living in parking lots, not run off RVers. The problem is real not percieved.
